How to Use The Mindfulness Workbook for Addiction in Therapy

The great thing about this workbook is that you can use it in your therapy or you can read it in on your own.

In Therapy:

The workbook is designed to be used weekly.  Focus on one chapter at a time.  You and your therapist can decide together how much time to spend on each chapter.  Some chapters may need more time than others.  You will be uncovering important thoughts and feelings about your addiction.  Make sure you give yourself the time you need.  Write in the workbook and bring it to your therapy sessions each week.  It’s also recommended that you use a journal to answer questions and organize your thoughts.

On Your Own:

If you decide to use the workbook on your own you are taking a wonderful step in your own recovery.  You have the luxury of working at your own pace.  Give yourself 30 minutes a few times a week to concentrate on yourself.  Find a quite place with few distractions.  Focus on one chapter at a time.  Writing in a journal may be an important tool to getting the most out of this workbook.  Take your time to answer the questions and complete the exercises.  You may also need the support of a local recovery or bereavement group.  Check the web for group near you.
